Mayfield CDP Community Garden was delighted to host members of Nasc's Women's Programme in June and July!
The first session began with an opportunity to slow down and reflect on the importance of self-care and wellbeing. Participants then worked together to create "Bags of Hope" sharing messages of encouragement and support with one another. They also learned about growing food, sustainable gardening practices and the positive impact that spending time in nature can have on our mental health and wellbeing. The day concluded with a practical planting activity, where participants potted herbs and plants to take home. For many women living in centres or homes with limited outdoor space, these windowsill plants provide an opportunity to nurture something of their own, bring greenery into their living spaces, and continue their gardening journey at home.
Our second session saw the Women's Programme meet with our Community Garden Group. The Community Garden Group showed everyone around and let us know what is currently growing in the garden. Our community gardener Sophie gave us a tutorial and then we got stuck into making Kokedamas to take home. Thanks again to our Community Garden Group for baking and being great hosts and look forward to welcoming these wonderful women from the Women's Programme back again soon!
